The Statement of Principles and Guidelines for the Sale and Purchase of Consumer Debt was developed by a work group comprised of representatives of the ABD Committee and the Debt Buyers Association (DBA International). It was recommended by the ABD Committee for, and has since received, adoption and approval by ACA International’s Executive Committee.

This document is a set of Principles that, when adopted individually by our ABD membership, will set guidelines for business, legal and professional conduct as well as guidelines for client, consumer, vendor and colleague relationships. As such, the ABD Committee strongly encourages all ABD members to individually adopt these Principles. Additionally, it will provide our membership with operating standards that will exhibit to regulators, legislators and consumer advocates that our membership is committed to addressing their concerns.
